Domino’s Oven Baked Sandwiches
Domino’s Pizza has launched a line of Oven Baked Sandwiches, in what the company is calling a “historic” expansion of it’s menu, becoming the first major quick-serve restaurant chain in America to deliver such items. The new sandwiches are baked in real ovens (not ‘toasted’), priced at $4.99 each, and come in four varieties.

Philly Cheese Steak - Steak, American and provolone cheeses, with fresh onions, green peppers and mushrooms.
Chicken Bacon Ranch - Seasoned all-white meat chicken breast, bacon, creamy ranch dressing and provolone cheese.
Chicken Parmesan - Seasoned all-white meat chicken breast, tomato basil marinara, parmesan-asiago and provolone cheeses.
Italian - Slices of pepperoni, Genoa salami, ham, provolone cheese, banana peppers, fresh green peppers and onions.
“As of today, we are the largest sandwich delivery company in the nation,” said Patrick Doyle, president of Domino’s USA. “This launch springboards Domino’s into the lunch business by providing a product that is high quality, priced right and aimed at convenience-minded people without a lot of time. Of course, sandwiches are also available any time our stores are open.
“Some of our sandwich competitors use units that look like microwaves or toaster ovens to try and warm a few of their subs. We have high-end ovens in our stores that cost $30,000 and bake our sandwiches at 450 degrees. It gives us a huge quality advantage they can’t match,” Doyle added. “People fed up with brown-bagging or driving to pick up something cold, can save some time and gas by ordering a hot Domino’s sandwich for delivery to their home or office.”
The new sandwiches debut this week at approximately 4,000 select locations, with all Domino’s stores expected to offer them beginning on September 22. The company plans to begin marketing over the next couple weeks, via television and web.
[…] Apparently the first of its kind, Domino’s Pizza will begin promoting its four new sandwich varieties, Philly Cheese Steak, Italian, Chicken Parmesan and Chicken Bacon Ranch. Boasting properly baked sandwiches in their bigger ovens in comparison to the “competitors” who have much smaller, less powerful machines. This noteworthy expansion to their menu makes Domino’s Pizza the largest sandwich delivery chain in the nation. (Thx FFC) […]
I’ll definitely check out that chicken bacon ranch. I wonder though if they’ll put enough meat on it. I’m looking forward to trying these!
I’ve never been a fan of Domino’s pizza. They’re bland, uninteresting and Domino’s seems to be more concerned with how quickly they can deliver it than how good it tastes.
A stand-up comedian in the 90’s had a line that has stuck with me when I think of Domino’s: “They are now able to fax you a pizza and it tastes just the same!”
These marketing photos make the sandwiches look pretty substantial and tasty. Now I’m not sure what to think! I guess FFC photography will have to break the stalemate on this one.
I do prefer warm sandwiches (or warm anything) to cold. Plus I don’t like toasted sandwiches. So they have my attention.
I’m not sure I’d call cooking sandwiches in a pizza oven “historic” though it doesn’t surprise me that a marketing type sees it that way!
I’m looking forward to a personal FFC review on this one.
So, are these freshly made in the store and then warmed or are they factory-made, warmed and served with a knowing smile?
Also, when you do your review, please post your photos next to theirs for comparison.
Hey guys!
John — I will put you down for the chicken bacon ranch. I’m probably going to get the Italian or chicken parmesan.
Jeff — I’m intrigued as well. We’ll try to do it soon!
Don — It’s my understanding their made fresh in each store, not pre-assembled, but I’m going to contact them again to get confirmation on that.
Dominos tried this once about 10 years ago but it didn’t seem to catch on even though it was very tasty.
Of course, the “toasted sandwich” thing is a LOT more popular now than in was in 1998….
I will be interested to see if these sandwiches are as good as dominos first shot at this concept
BIG +1 to Old Geezer. Please oh please, start posting real photos of the menu items next to the PR photos
Wed nite I called in a home delivery order for the Philly at 6:15p. A Bacon Chicken arrived at 7:05p; and finally the luke warm Philly at 8:45p.
Won’t go into the ALL the poor service and “attitudes” since they are local issues - but to give you an sampling- when I asked if I could add a tip to the debit card receipt I was told “no” and offered the choice to “just wait until next time OR (believe it or not) — “I could get out of bed and drive to an ATM and get cash”!!!)
SO I got to see both the chicken and philly. The meat in both were equal to about what you can actually see in the front (not the sides) of the sandwiches in the pictures above. If you posted a picture of my sandwich all you would see would be the bun.
I think they are confused with pizzas. I would say if you had a slice of pizza the size of the sandwich with 1 meat, you would get about the same amount.
I can’t really comment on the taste because I had to microwave to reheat which changes everything.
BUT on the plus side - they are clearly not pre-assembled. The bread was toasted just right, the cheese was totally melted, and I could identify all the ingrediants.
I have been searching for a good Philly for 20 years since my first at a small pizza shop in Maine. Nothing but dissapointments and had high hopes for these.
Final opinion - you might like it if you really like bread and don’t care about the meat.
