Snickers and Mr.T Anti-Gay?
Mars Corporation, makers of Snickers, has pulled it’s latest advertising campaign for the peanut filled candy bar after complaints that it was homophobic. But thanks to the Internet and YouTube, you can still view the commercial and decide for yourself.
Now that you’ve watched the video, head over to UTalkMarketing for the details on why the advertisement has been cancelled, and what the company is saying about it.
I think the basic idea of Mr.T firing Snickers bars at people from a Snickers machine gun is pretty funny, but is this version of that concept Anti-Gay? I suppose the remarks “Disgrace to the man race” and “Time to run like a real man” were too much for people to handle. The slogan “Get some nuts” probably didn’t help. What do you think?
LMAO!!!
I have nothing against speed walkers or gays but that was hilarious!!!
Snickers got nailed on a SB commercial a few years ago that was deemed homophobic — two guys at the same Snickets a la Lady and the Tramp, end up kissing then ripping out their chest hair to prove their manhood. That spot was roundly ripped for being anti-gay.
Snickers/Mars is overly sensitive to the complaint, which is why they pulled the Mr. T commercial.
Poor Mr. T.
I think it is silly to complain about the ad because in no way does it suggest that gay men are wimps/sissies.
If I tell a guy to “grow a pair” I am not accusing him of being gay, I’m accusing him of being a wimp.
I’m known plenty of gay men who were in no way wimps, including a former marine.
Funny stuff. I didn’t find it particularly homophobic. The commercial ends before you see the guy go home and have sex with a man. Anyway it’s win/win for Mars because they pull the ad and it gets a ton of free exposure.
The speed walker in the ad is a famous Mormon actor who stars in a bunch of LDS movies. Hahah…
