Taco Bueno’s New Flame-Grilled Menu
Watch out Chipotle, the folks at Taco Bueno are going after the gourmet burrito (and bowl) market, and they’re serious about making it a success. The company is in the process of installing flame grills at all restaurant locations, and the transition should be completed by the end of this month. Bueno’s new menu will include Fajita Tacos, Gourmet Burritos and Gourmet Bowls. All the new items are made with flame-grilled steak or chicken, cooked fresh daily at each store.
“Taco Bueno is proving its commitment to scratch cooking by adding flame grills to our restaurants. Many other quick-serve brands advertise grilled products, but often the ‘grilling’ takes place in a faraway factory. At Bueno, the new fajita steak and chicken are cooked over fire all day at each of our units.” — Bueno
damn, no taco buenos near me. is this place any good?
i’ve only tried chipotle once and it had been sitting in my refrigerator for a few days… it was pretty good.
I always love trying a new taco place. I too have never experienced Taco Bueno.
It looks like the closest one to me is New Mexico (and that ain’t close)! But if you’re in TX or OK, you’re in Bueno heaven.
Man I love Taco Bueno!, I used to hit them every time I was in Tx, or Ok, sadly I never get out of Fl, now hope they come this way soon!
I saw the commercial for their new “gourmet” menu last week and finally got to try it this weekend. I am fortunate to live in OK and there is a Taco Bueno 1-2 miles in any direction from our apartment.
I got the gourmet chicken burrito and Hubs got two flame grilled steak tacos. The burrito was $4.99 and size-wise not as big as Chiptole or Qdoba, I’d say about the same size as Bueno’s Big ‘Ole Burrito. I took the first bite and tasted the chipotle sauce, but it was mostly cilantro rice. I took two more bites full of rice… Not impressed. Hubs took a huge bite, we’re about at the middle now, and still no chicken or beans. I can taste the sauce but I cannot see it. It’s all been rice and a few black beans. About 3/4 of the way through, I finally got some chicken. It was rolled completely the wrong way. I was not a happy camper. I would get the bowl next time, just to get the ingredients even.
Now, on to the steak tacos… They were $1.99 each and pretty disappointing. Hubs opened his tacos to inspect and there was about 2 tablespoons of meat and a touch of cheese. He dumped salsa in and took his first bite. Said they tasted good but not for $4 worth of food. I didn’t get a bite because he was hungry and there wasn’t much to them. Hubs said he would not order them again.
On all of the new items you can add guacamole or sour cream (a la Chiptole/Qdoba) for an additional charge. They would have been better with both but then you’re eating a $6 burrito. I can go to my favorite taco shop and get broke off for less than that.
On the way home from Bueno we realized the Qdoba we’ve been waiting for had opened. If we want “fresh Mex” we’ll stop there next time.
