Wendy’s Flavor Dipped Chicken Sandwich. Have you seen it?

wendys_flavor_dipped_menu.jpg

For over a year now, this sandwich has eluded me. None of the Wendy’s locations in my city have ever offered this item on the menu. Wendy’s website and PR info doesn’t mention it, and neither does their list of limited-time and ‘regional’ items. It would seem that officially, this sandwich doesn’t exist. But I’ve found a few references on the Internet going back to early last year, all positive feedback. I want this sandwich!

FFC’s new contributor Philip Given has spotted the “Flavor Dipped” chicken sandwich listed as “new” on the drive-thru menu at a Wendy’s in Pennsylvania, offering “Buffalo” or “BBQ”, and he sent the picture above to taunt me with his sandwich superiority. The restaurant was closed, but Philip will follow up with a hands-on report soon.

What about you? Have any FFC readers seen or eaten this sandwich?

  1. good morning mr. ffc

i could only find 3 people in google who said they ate it which is tiny number for such big chain as wendys so it must be a very small number of stores doing test or something. it sounds like a big chicken wing, they dip whole thing in sauce.

i wonder if it’s their new chicken filet that supposed to be good like chickfila and replace old wendys chicken, to upgrade.

  2. I noticed these sandwiches being offered on the East side of Madison this week. I haven’t tried one….they don’t appeal to me.

  3. I wish they had more flavors to dip… I’m in PA and I feel like investigating every local Wendy’s now.

    BRB!

  4. I live in PA and my local Wendy’s does have these sandwiches. I haven’t tried it but they did have it. We have a few Wendy’s in my area but the one I went to was located in Wind Gap, PA if anyone cares to investigate.

  5. I want one too.

I don’t know what it is.

But I must have one. :D

  6. Thats expensive for Wendys compared to their regular chicken sandwiches.

Hope it’s bigger than current ones. Is there any cheese of lettuce on it?

  7. I recall seeing some of these at a Wendy’s on Lake City Way in Seattle. Maybe I’ll try one next time I go there.

  8. I had the buffalo one at a wendys in east hanover, nj. It was barely spicy which made me think they gave me the bbq instead. The chicken was definately more like mcdonalds southern style and I can’t say I really liked it. Definately not worth the price they’re charging.

  9. Hey.

My local Wendys in Shelton, CT carries this sandwich and I have tried the buffalo version once. Their buffalo marinade is hot and the sandwich overall was delicious. The chicken seems to the same quality as the other premium chicken offerings, not better or worse.

  10. Goodluck on your hunt for one Tim!

    road trip? :)

  11. Yeah, I’ve seen them in a few central CT locations. Haven’t tried one yet though.

  12. I’m in Iowa and the Wendy’s by me is advertising them. Didn’t try it, though.

  13. I saw them at the Wendy’s in Philadelphia at 15th and Chestnut just yesterday. They’re about $4.50. I did not eat it though.

  14. I will report back tomorrow evening with the results friends : )

  15. Haven’t seen these in the NYC Wendy’s I frequent. But, I’m curious about something else too: why is it that no one on the internets knows the proper spelling of ‘definitely’????

  16. I had one for dinner tonight (the buffalo one) and it was actually really good. I think the chicken is the same they use for their regular breaded chicken sandwiches. The buffalo sauce is pretty good. It’s flavorful but beware to hot sauce weenies- it did leave my mouth tingling for a bit.

  17. It was just advertised on Sunday Night Football, but you probably missed it because you were crying about the Cowboys loss.

  18. These are available at my local Wendy’s… unfortunately, my local Wendy’s is also a disgusting cesspool of cleverly-dodged healthcode violations.

So, I may or may not try them.

  19. These sandwiches both are currently advertised on the Wendy’s Website. I’ve tried both. I really liked the Buffalo Sandwich, but wasn’t that happy with the Barbecue. I believe these are being offered for a limited time . This is welcome change for Wendy’s wich typically doesn’t offer “Sauced” Chicken Sandwich.

  20. haven’t seen them, but need to try them now! both flavors sound great

  21. I had one of these last week. I had the buffalo dip. It was very spicy and flavorful, so much so that all you could taste was the buffalo sauce. The sandwich seemed like the same classic chicken sandwich from Wendy’s, just dipped in buffalo sauce. If you have had the buffalo chicken ranch sandwich from Applebee’s, this is basically the same sandwich, minus the ranch sauce. It is good if you are a big fan of buffalo wing sauce, and if you have a lot of napkins. It certainly isn’t something you want to try to tackle why you are driving.

  22. Tried the Buffalo dipped sandwich just a few minutes ago. It comes with lettuce, tomato and mayo. The BBQ comes with pickles and onions.
The Buffalo sauce was spicy, but not too spicy it had a really good flavor to it. I could do without the lettuce and tomato. The mayo is a good balance with the heat of the sauce.
Personally, I don’t think that it is worth over 4 dollars for the just the sandwich. They could probably lower the price to around 2-ish, but overall it was a pretty good sandwich.

  23. I tried one today for lunch. The price was $4.09 here in suburban maryland which is the same price as a spicy chicken sandwich and .10 more than a regular chicken sandwich. I ordered the buffalo flavored one. Interestingly, when I ordered it the cashier asked me if I would like my fillet regular, spicy, or grilled. So basically, they just take their regular sandwiches and dip them. I opted for the spicy dipped in buffalo sauce. Since I got the spicy fillet, it is difficult for me to tell how spicy the actual sauce was. All in all, it was pretty good - just about what you would expect. Looking forward to the full blown review on FFC.

  24. Thanks to everyone who has responded.

You guys and girls are awesome! :)

  25. I tried it last week, I got the buffalo dipped sandwich.

The sauce had a good flavor but the sandwich got too soggy for my own liking. It was too wet and drippy. By I got to the end, it was a big mess, the bread practically fell apart and the breading seemed to keep falling off the meat. I wasn’t very impressed with it.

I definitely would not order it again, stick with the spicy chicken sandwich.

  26. I tried the buffalo dipped one yesterday. It was really good. It was a little bit messy, but I was surprised at how much sauce stayed on the chicken. It had a nice bit of heat to it, which is always a plus. Instead of the mayo, mine had ranch on it, which was definitely noticeable in a good way. God bless the ghetto Wendy’s on my way home from work for putting whatever the hell they feel like on the sandwich! There may be some foodies hiding in their staff.

I didn’t have a chance to take any pictures because:
    A) The cameras were upstairs.
    and
    B) I was hungry, dammit.

I plan on going back this week to get one of each and having a nice little photo shoot. Drop me an email if you want some of the pics. :)

  27. Yep, they sell ‘em at the Wendy’s here on the west side of Atlanta, too. But because I have an unhealthy love for their spicy chicken sandwich, I haven’t felt the need to try it yet…

  28. I just received an email tonight offering $1 off the sandwich of my choice for a limited time. I have been getting offers like these for a couple months, for joining their WendyMail program.

I am in the Chicagoland Market

  29. I’m addicted to the new Flavor-dipped Buffalo Sandwich. I must have had 4 in the past week!! I agree that it’s a lttle messy…use more napkins and enjoy!!

  30. Just had the Buffalo version for lunch–it was excellent. Freshly made and fairly spicy. I thought it compared well with the pricier versions you can get in sports bars, etc.

    Well done, Wendy’s!

  31. i just got one, and it was pretty nasty and overpriced. The buffalo sauce was way too vinigery, salty, and just plain unsatisfying.
