Fudge Nut Brownie from Chick-Fil-A

After eating my delicious Chick-Fil-A chicken sandwich and waffle fries, I found myself craving something sweet. I know they serve some great shakes but I was in the mood for a different dessert, like chocolate cake or cookies. It appeared I was out of luck.

Then I remembered – they have a Fudge Nut Brownie on the menu at Chick-Fil-A.

So I spent the extra $1.10 and grabbed one as I left. The drive home is short, but it was difficult because the little see-thru container was sitting next to me, with the brownie inside looking back asking to be eaten. I wanted to wait until getting home so I could capture some review photos. It’s hard to get a good close-up shot inside the car.

Taking the sharp corner by my house I heard the little container go sliding out of the seat and onto to floor, followed by a couple books and cd’s. I assumed my brownie was smashed, but it was just fine. At this moment I truly appreciated the hard-ish shell plastic container that protected my dessert. It would have been crushed, or at least rolling around bare on the dusty floorboard had it come in a paper bag or wrapping.

As I took my brownie out of the plastic package a walnut fell off the top, and I quickly grabbed it and popped it into my mouth with tasty nutty satisfaction. They used big chunks of whole walnuts instead of ‘crushed’ bits. The brownie is small to normal size (as brownies go) but it has some pretty hefty nuts on top. They tasted great, much better than lower grade walnuts you find on pre-packaged treats at the supermarket.

The fudge icing was thick and wonderfully sweet without being too overpowering, and the brownie was soft and moist inside. Despite being small, it was heavy and dense, more so than something like a Little Debbie snack. It gave me the feeling it was made by hand, as opposed to being mass produced by the millions in a factory. It wasn’t quite home-made quality, but it was better than I expected, and only cost a buck.

The Fudge Nut Brownie from Chick-Fil-A ended up being a pleasant surprise. It was large enough and rich enough to satisfy my sweet chocolate craving, but small and cheap enough that it didn’t hurt my wallet or waistline. The walnuts are excellent.

  2. Hello Geezer! I hope you are doing well sir.

    Since there are 5 stars, we could say each one basically represents 20 points if this was a scale from 1 - 100. So while the difference between 3 and 4 stars might not seem like much, it’s like comparing a score of 60 to 80 in school. There’s a full 20 points separating them.

    Admittedly, things have changed since my grade-school days, but way back then 70 was considered the ‘passing’ grade, or average. Therefore…

    60 would fail, being a full 10 points ‘under’ average.

    80 would pass, being a full 10 points ‘over’ average.

    That being said, I also must admit 3 things….

    1) My original score for the BK Potato Burger was only 2.5 stars, and I even used the word “rip-off” in the review. Then after sleeping on it, I started to think I might have over-reacted and been a bit too harsh.

    So I removed the word “rip-off” and replaced it with “I want my money back”. And I changed my score from 2.5 to 3, since the price and toppings were the main issues, and I actually liked the meat and bun foundation.

    2) I’m trying to be conservative with giving out anything of 4 stars or above. Anything that gets 4 stars (or above) from me, is a pretty damn good food item (in my opinion).

    3) I’m still new at this, and learning with each passing day. I came into this with no experience — nothing but a silly dream. I had no ’system’ in place, no staff members (yet) and no past food projects for comparison. And much of my first 6 weeks has been spent getting the site to look and function properly. I should be able to focus more on food now.

    Geezer, I know you’re a straight-up honest guy, and I appreciate all the feedback and comments you have posted. Please feel free to bust my chops on anything you think I’m doing wrong. It can only make me better. :)

  3. After thinking about Geezer’s comments for a while longer, and then having a close trusted friend review-my-review… I’m seeing the point more clearly now.

    In some cases — my stars are not quite accurately matching my words. And I’m being too conservative, scared to give a score that’s “too” good or “too” bad.

    I will look within myself now, and try to make the necessary personal adjustments. I might also adjust a couple of my reviews.

    Another day, another experience, another lesson learned.

  4. I wish I had a Chick-Fil-A near me so I could run out and get one of these. I am interested in seeing a review of the Chocolate Cake from Jack in the Box. I know what I think about it, but want to see what the great Fast Food Critic thinks. :)
