Inexpensive Food Photography Box

Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mom’s visiting the site today.

On this pleasant Sunday morning I would like to present everyone with a short video showing the light box I’ve built for my fast-food photography. It’s simple but effective.

  3. when I was a kid and had a darkroom I built one of those for closeups, not nearly as nice as yours, mine was more like the commercial one (I saw it advertised a few places and thought “that’s just like the one I made!”).

next time I have some extra money I’m going to get a good digital camera.

  4. Nice setup!

  5. hmm, that’s pretty neat. I should give that a try when i get home.

  6. Hello RJ, Rob and Dooby!

I hope everybody is doing good this weekend, and having a nice Mother’s Day.

  7. I had just commented on what great pictures you had. Well done!

  8. In other news, that presto pizzazz oven is silly. ;)

  9. Joan — Thank you very much. Coming from a great photographer like yourself, that means a lot to me.

    Prairie — Hahaha. :)

Well, you aren’t really supposed to see that. I have things stacked up all over my kitchen bar and counter, it looks like I’m having a garage sale or something.

    Hmmm…. garage sale…. not a bad idea.

  10. Nice simple, cheap setup you have their. What kind of camera do you use to shoot your photos, if you don’t mind me asking?

  11. One more quick question - doesn’t the material that you photograph the food on get greasy sometimes, such as in the Arby’s fries photo? How do you deal with that?

  12. Ryan, Hello!

I apologize for not replying to the first question. I must have missed the little notice that pops up.

My new camera is: Canon PowerShot
    Model number: SD870 IS

    Here’s a sweet flash presentation.

Here’s the exact camera at Best Buy, for $299.

In addition to the site’s food photographs, it also shot that video! For a relatively inexpensive camera, I was VERY pleased to see it made decent videos too.

Funny you mention the material and grease spots, because today is laundry day. Yes indeed I am getting spots and stains. I’m tossing the stuff in the washing machine, on Gentle cycle, with just a TINY amount of detergent. It’s working fine.

But eventually, the material will need to be replaced, because it’s very thin… it’s not going to stand-up to many washes, even on Gentle.

I see a lot of paper plates in my future. :)
